Getting Started
It all begins with a tandem jump. A tandem jump is an experience that involves 2 jumpers, strapped to one another in a single descent. For jumpers interested in getting their license, this is the first step to it. It is also just a great experience for anyone interested in getting the feeling of what skydiving is like without taking the sport to a further level.
If the idea of a tandem jump is already worrisome, it may help to take a look at some videos to get familiar with the experience. It may help to know that though skydiving has a negative reputation as a "dangerous sport," it is actually relatively safe. For tandem jumps in specific, there has only been 1 student fatality for every 500,000 tandem jumps over the past 10 years.
Take a look at some other skydiving statistics when compared to other activities. (statistics from USPA and NSC)
